What is Subtraction?
Subtraction is when we take things away to find out how many are left.
When we subtract, we start with a number and take some away. The answer is called the difference. Let's learn subtraction with numbers up to 5!
How to Subtract
1️⃣ Start with a number (like 5 apples)
2️⃣ Take some away (eat 2 apples)
3️⃣ Count what's left (3 apples left!)
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Fruit Basket
Click on fruits to take them away!

5 - 0 = 5
Example 2: Balloon Pop
We have 4 balloons. Some pop! How many are left?
4 - = 4
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use everyday objects: Practice subtraction with snacks, toys, or steps - "You had 5 crackers and ate 2, how many are left?"
- Make it physical: Have your child act out subtraction by jumping forward and backward or using their fingers.
- Story problems: Create simple stories like "3 bunnies were hopping, 1 went home. How many are still hopping?"
